Hi everyone, my name is Raul Diaz, and welcome to my website. I won't start my story all the way at beginning, but rather the beginning of this journey to reach the classroom. After managing at UPS for many years, I made the decision to put my degree to work. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 2004 with a BA in History, but did'nt start working in education until 2009. I started as a district substitute for the Fontana Unified Shcool District, and have learned a great deal about the profession of teaching in terms of what I should be, and equally important, what I shouldn't be. Since 2011, I've served as Resident Substitute at AB Miller High School in Fontana. It has been my time at Miller that has very much solidified that teaching is what I want to do for the rest of my life. In my time at Miller, I've had the opportunity to learn how to teach through long term assignments, through the relationships I've built with established teachers, and through the many hours of committing myself to the job. Apart from coaching varsity basketball, which is something I always wanted to do, but never had the avenues to get to, I've also participated in many school activities that really makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger. My greatest achievement by far was being named the interim ASB Director at Miller for the span of 6 months. The relationships I built with those kids in such a short amount of time was truly a special occurrence that I don't believe I could ever duplicate. I appreciate that a year later these kids still reach out to me and tell me their stories from the universities. or, the kids that are still at the high school still seek me out for advice, or just to be together again. The picture above was taken during our Disney trip for the CADA conference. One of my favorite photos.
What ASB taught me, apart from the job itself, is that I was good at this. I knew that I was ready to lead my own classroom. Which has led me to this point. With my credential classwork complete, and my Health Science CSET's passed, I am ready to begin, hopefully for the 2017-2018 school year. Thank you, and enjoy the site.
